American Baptist Churches of New York State (ABC/NYS) provides many
ministries to its more than 320 congregations and 48,000 plus resident
members. Field Ministry is one of these vital ministries.
Field ministers relate to the needs of the pastors and churches of
ABC/NYS. Each field minister works in partnership with a field ministry
enhancement team in these areas of responsibility:
1. Pastor to Pastors. Serving as a "pastor to the pastor" includes
these areas: crisis intervention, career assessment and placement,
continuing education, motivation, spouse and family matters, ordination
and recognition issues. Pastors served include retirees and their
families.
2. Pastoral Placement. Assisting churches in the process of
securing pastoral leadership includes: search committee support, united/federated/union
church partnerships, minister-at-large and interim processes, reference
checks, services of installation, and issues related to the code of
ethics, and the self-disclosure statement.
3. Congregations. Related to churches by getting to know members
and leaders; assisting in vision discovery and affirmation; assisting
in decision making; and providing resources for renewal and planning.
4. Associations. Serving as resource persons to associations.
5. ABC/NYS Representative. Representing ABC/NYS in policy implementation;
telling the regional story; and emphasizing American Baptist identity
and mission.
6. Other. Standing as the first line of approach for pastors
and churches and providing a connection to regional and national resources.
